Welcome to Eien no Yume, a site dedicated to Japanese artist, Camui Gackt! If you are new to the fandom, you are probably itching to know who, or what as some people like to ask, this person is. And we are more than happy to give you a brief introduction to this beautiful, talented, articulate, eccentric, ......, dedicated, strong......, humorous, dorky, intelligent, and witty man who has captivated us all. :D You WILL be brainwashed to love him as we do, so continue reading at your own risk. Gackt is a famous artist from the Land of the Rising Sun a.k.a Japan. He claims
that he was born in the year 1540 on July 4th, though many have doubted the
reliability of that information. We are pretty sure the date is correct, but
some people are still a little unsure of the year. No surprise there, but
hey, gotta take into account a man's sensitivity in not wanting to divulge
his real age after all!
Young Gackt started out as the vocalist of a Visual Kei band, Malice Mizer,
and left the band in 1999 to start his solo career. The man has been unstoppable
ever since. With a few albums under his name, he was not satisfied with achieving
success in only Japan and has also released singles in English, Chinese, and
even an album in Korean, determined to bridge the gap between Asian countries.
He has an unbeliavable vocal range, being able to hit both high and low notes,
and enjoys making songs of different genres. That is why it is hard to place
him in either the Jrock or Jpop category. How can you when he releases an
album full of hard rock songs one minute, and then comes up with a series
of heart-wrenching ballads the next!?
Okay, so the man sings, sheesh, what's the big deal, right? Well, this talented
man not only sings but can also play a number of instruments such as piano,
guitar, drums, trombone, trumpet, bass, and tuba. He also composes the music
and lyrics for all of his songs, and being a perfectionist, is naturally in-charge
of all the details. Gackt speaks English fluently, and knows more than a fair
bit of Chinese, Korean and French. His mastery of the Japanese language is
undisputed, though, as can be seen through his hauntingly beautiful lyrics.
Not much is known of his private life, except for what he wrote in his autobiography,
Jihaku (which can be found in our Autobiography
Section), which tells of a strict childhood. However, the determined man
managed to conquer all obstacles and is not only successful in the music industry,
but has also endorsed various products; became the face of a beauty clinic
for 5 years in a row; took part in the production of a few animation and games-related
works; and wrote and acted in a movie.
But what has made him really famous isn't his music (unfortunately), but his
rather eccentric habits. The public loves him for his witty comments on TV
shows, and he somehow always manages to say the cleverest lines. He is well-known
for being quite the ladies' man, for his bold statements (what with his "magnum"
and his ability to do you-know-what for eight hours non-stop :O) and for doing
unbelievable stunts. He has also been voted one of Japan's most fashionable
celebrities and he loves to surprise the fans by sporting different hairstyles,
ranging from cornrows to curls.
He has been described by many as being...... effeminate, to put it nicely,
but don't let appearances fool you! He is as manly as a man can ever be, from
his bearing right down to the way he moves and talks. He practices various
martial arts and brings the word "flexible" to a whole new level.
*watches him turn into a pretzel* And of course, a competitive spirit like
his tries his darndest to excel at everything that he does. One must give
credit to him though, for never bragging about any of his accomplishments.
The endearing thing about him is that he never tries too hard, or at all,
to please others. He just does.
This unique individual holds interesting and bold views on many issues, and
is never afraid to share with you his thoughts. There are many adjectives
that can be used to describe Camui Gackt, and passionate, determined, and
confident are but a few. His love and passion for music is clear for all to
see, and he has shown to the world that you can definitely have fun while
working towards something in which you strongly believe. He never compromises
but will always find a way to achieve what he wants. Personally, I believe
that the greatest gift he has given us is proving that we shouldn't be afraid
to reach out for our dreams.
